Which Bread?

You’ve probably been to a grocery store or a bakery before. Have you ever looked closely at the bread shelves? There are so many different kinds of bread! They come in different shapes, different sizes, and even different colors.

The main ingredient in bread is wheat. Different types of wheat produce different kinds of bread. For example, cornbread is yellow, whole wheat bread is brown, and hamburger buns are white.

There are also breads made from the same type of wheat that still look different. That’s because the way the wheat is processed affects the final bread. Wheat is a very valuable source of nutrition. It contains vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which helps keep our digestive system healthy.

When white bread is made, the fiber-rich and mineral-rich parts of the wheat are removed, leaving only white flour. Bread is then baked from this flour. Whole wheat flour, on the other hand, is made using the entire wheat kernel, so it keeps all of its valuable nutrients.

As you can see, white bread has much lower nutritional value. It also makes us feel hungry again more quickly after we eat it. That’s why it’s better to choose rye bread, multigrain bread, whole wheat bread, or bread made with oat flour. We should also make our cookies and cakes with whole grains whenever possible. Choosing foods with higher nutritional value helps us stay healthier.
